WonFes Winter 2024: What’s New?

The most awaited biannual anime figure event is happening today at the usual venue in Makuhari Messe in Chiba. If you’re like me, you’d be very excited to see what new figures companies will reveal that they are working on. We’ll be updating this post as we get new images as the event unfolds.

It’s Not Too Late to Get Tickets

If you happen to be in Japan and are looking to attend the event in person, you can still grab a ticket at the venue for ¥4,000 or you can take advantage of the cheaper afternoon-only ticket at ¥2,300.

What Figures to Watch Out For?

I can only speak for myself, but these figures caught my attention this WonFes. Frankly, I didn’t think I would add so many to my watch list as I am already peaking with my collection.

Amazon Japan Top Selling Anime Figures

New Oshi no Ko Date Style Figures

If these are anything like the Quintessential Quintuplets Date Style figures that are in 1/6 scale, then there’s a good chance that this is going to my preorder list. Yes, all three of them. It’s a shame Memcho was snubbed but maybe she’ll get her own Date Style figure down the line.

We were also teased with an announcement for a Full Moon Ver. scale figure for Kana Arami. This is her outfit in the music video which is a white summer dress and a hat. If this turns out great, this could be going to the collection as well.

And then, we have more Kana Arima. This one is in full idol get-up.

Plenty of New Azur Lane Figures

WonFes, a few years ago, was filled with Rem and FGO figures. That trend is slowing down and WonFes is now filled with plenty of figures from gacha games like Azur Lane, Nikke, Blue Archive and Girls Frontline. I believe I only saw one from Arknights. Of these gacha games, I only actively play Azur Lane so you’ll see plenty of Azur Lane figures below.

For a while, I did think about playing Nikke but I didn’t go through with it. Now, I just jumped into the Atelier Resleriana gacha game — the gacha version of the Atelier franchise. I’m surprised I didn’t see any new figures from Genshin Impact. I did see a few from Honkai Star Rail though.

Amazon Japan Top Selling Anime Figures

Here are the Azur Lane figures that caught my attention.

Implacable is an ultra-rare ship in the game so she is quite popular. This is most definitely going to my collection.

Not a big fan of Kronshtadt so I’m probably skipping this one.

I don’t really go into 1/4 scales so FREEing is usually a no-go for me. Granted I do still want a figure of Reno. Maybe the after-market prices on her 1/7 scale figures will be kinder on the budget.

I’ve got the Azur Lane Racing Queen figures on preorder. Race Queen Baltimore actually just arrived recently and is now sitting pretty in my display. I’m excited for the rest of the Racing Queens to come home and Ulrich is most likely going to be included.

Bremerton has gotten a few figures now and they will be releasing within the next few months. I haven’t been hooked yet though. Maybe Brilliant Journey’s Bremerton will be good and cheap (hopefully). FREEing’s 1/4 scale bunnies are just too expensive to ship and take up so much space that I don’t order them. I do welcome 1/7 scale bunnies to my collection though.

I’ve preordered Taihou’s 1/6 scale figure from AniGame so I’m good with that already. I can easily skip this 1/4 scale bunny. Also, notably, this is already Taihou’s second 1/4 scale figure, the first one being her swimsuit version.

I have already preordered Indomitable’s 1/6 scale by AniGame. If this one came in 1/6 or even 1/7 scale that would have been a dilemma. But since I do not collector 1/4 scales, skipping this is fine. If you are a 1/4 scale collector though, you can’t go wrong with Alphamax.

Boob windows are awesome! Can’t wait to see the painted prototype for this Clemenceau figure.

Not a big fan of Giulio Cesare so this is an easy skip. That doesn’t mean I wouldn’t want to have her assuming money is no object.

At this point, it’s going to be a contest between this swimsuit figure of Cheshie or Alter’s Cheshire. Right now, I’m leaning into this one. However, I am worried about how much space she’ll take on my display.

Nothing too groundbreaking in this figure of Elbe so I’m going to have to pass on this one. It’d still be interesting to see how she looks painted though.

I already got the Unicorn figure by Plum but is this new one better? Maybe but not by a lot. I’m also considering if Claynel is a good manufacturer because there’s not much information about them yet.

Kashino in 1/4 scale will be humongous! And while I do not buy 1/4 scales, I would like to see this in person.

Le Malin already has several figures released. I didn’t realize she would be this popular when she isn’t even a meta unit in the game.

Some Good Nikke Scale Figures

I’ve included these two figures from Nikke here because they are cute and sexy. I would even consider preordering them if the price is right. These are not the only new entries from Nikke though.

Persona 3 Reload Figures

Most of the Persona 3 figures that I know of are already quite old. I’ve yet to jump into Persona 3 but as a fan of the Persona franchise in general, I’m hoping to jump in soon. I will be considering preordering these figures but that will depend on their prices.

More Marin Figures

From one of the most popular anime of 2022, My Dress-Up Darling poster girl Marin Kitagawa’s figures tend to go up in the aftermarket. We’ll probably see prices settle down as more figures of her are released.

I actually just got her swimsuit version from Aniplex this week and she is now sitting pretty in my display just next to my workstation.

As for these new figures…

This new one from Good Smile Company doesn’t look very promising. She’s a simple figure but that doesn’t necessarily mean bad. They will probably be selling her for cheap. Lately, Good Smile Company has been selling simple scale figures at prices lower than what other companies would charge. Always good for Wallet-kun’s well-being. He’s the one who fears for his life whenever WonFes comes around.

This one by Aniplex might have more promise — cute and sexy. This is MOST DEFINITELY going to my collection. Money is no object.

Also, despite Marin already having a regular Nendoroid released, she is also now getting a swimsuit version Nendoroid. Who would’ve thought?

And then we have two more scale figures of Marin in her Liz cosplay. We have one from Spiritale and one from Proof. I prefer the one from Spiritale though I dread how much damage Wallet-kun will take. Besides, Spiritale has a better reputation as a manufacturer of quality figures.

Plenty of Miku to Go Around

As always, WonFes is a festival for Hatsune Miku. There are plenty of new Hatsune Miku figures to go around. I’m not a big Miku collector. So far, I’m really liking this one even though it is not yet painted.

Thicc Thighs and Mechs

No actual mechs here but that’s what the anime is about. You can think of these Dreamy Divas version figures of the girls from the Gridman universe as idol versions. They look good (at least the art does). I’m hopeful they’ll turn out great but I’m a bit worried about the pricing as Solarain figures tend to be pricey.

We also got another one from Rikka. This time it’s a Chinese dress. Since I already have the Rikka and Akane swimsuit set, I’ll be skipping this unless it’s really cheap.

The Monogatari Series is Still Relevant and I Like It

The Monogatari series remains my favorite anime series to this date. I don’t think these figures trump any of their current best figures but they are good options for those who don’t have the original ones.

Hanekawa’s new figure from Ques Q is based on the manga so some fans of the show might find her face weird. I’m probably still getting her though.

As for this figure of Senjougahara, I’m not yet sold until I see the painted version. I do hope she turns out great. Fingers crossed!

I already have the Shinobu (Kiss-shot) figure from Kizumonogatari and despite being the biggest Monogatari fan, I need to see this painted first before I decide if it’s worth hitting that preorder button.

Do You Love Wolves in Cute Clothing?

Holo is still as popular as ever as she gets 2 new scale figure reveals.

The Yukata version looks nice but I hope it is a standing figure. It’s so hard to display figures that are lying down unless they’re lying down on their sides. From the looks of the artwork, it seems she is lying down on her back. I think this is based on artwork for a body pillow cover.

This one is cute because she is a wolf and she is nibbling on the bunny ears. Subliminal message: She can’t be a bunny because she eats bunnies for dinner (or maybe apples).

More Android Booty

While this does look promising despite the absence of paint, I might be hitting the skip button but that’s only because I already have the NieR:Automata’s 2B figure by Flare and the one by Aniplex on preorder.

The Apothecary

I watched the Apothecary Diaries without any expectations. I am enjoying it more than I thought I would despite the shoujo elements in the show.

I actually just searched MFC last week to see if there are any scale figures of Maomao in the works but to my disappointment, I only found the Pop-Up Parade and the Nendoroid. I don’t collect Pop-Up Parades. The ones I have, I am trying to sell. As for Nendoroids, I have a love-hate relationship with Nendoroids. Sure they are cute and budget-friendly but damn, they can be very hard to pose and assemble!

So, imagine my delight when WonFes reveals not one but two scale figures of Maomao. Now, I just need to decide if I want her with freckles or no freckles.

Care for a Life-Sized Figure?

I don’t but that’s mainly because I can’t afford shelling out ¥500,000 even if I do attend WonFes 2024 in person. So far, the manufacturer has only released 1 figure so I’m wondering how good this looks in person. It looks like there’s actual fur in there. Perhaps, faux fur.

Now I’m wondering how much it would cost to commission someone to do a 1/1 scale figure. I’m sure it would be much cheaper than buying an actual 1/1 scale.

Evangelion – More Rei and Asuka

I now have over 250 figures but with no scale figure of Rei or Asuka. Blasphemy, right? The thing is, there are so many of them that it’s become incredibly hard to choose which one is the best one to get. Will it be this new set from Kadokawa? I’m sure they’ll look great painted. But nah! Still not feeling it.

PriConne is Still Alive

Princess Connect Re:Dive is still alive and thriving in JP. Yes, that’s a shot at Crunchyroll for shutting down the PriConne global server!

Here’s a public service announcement. If you are playing any game published by Crunchyroll, you better stop now. Or at least don’t throw any money at it. Crunchyroll is a scum of a company and I’m not just saying that because they shut down PriConne so abruptly even when it was doing fine. It’s not the first game they shut down on a whim. Even their anime streaming business is crap, predatory, and abuses its monopoly in the industry.

Going back to the topic. Now we’re getting an update on Yui’s scale figure which is definitely going to my preorder list. I was also waiting on updates on some other Princess Connect figures that I am watching such as Swimsuit Saren and Swimsuit Pecorine. But alas. Maybe WonFes Summer 2024 will see more updates on Princess Connect.

A Certain Scientific Railgun is Getting New Figures

That certain scientific railgun is Misaka Mikoto — the one and only.

This figure of Misaka and Kuroko is really quite adorable. Can’t wait to see it get painted. Will they be sold as a set or can you purchase them separately? Only time will tell but if you ask me, you might as well get them both. Despite Misaka always pushing Kuroko away, they do look good together.

This other new figure of this certain scientific railgun appears to be wearing an oriental-themed dress. It’s hard to tell since it’s still unpainted. What I can tell for certain though, the two figures above (Misaka and Kuroko) will probably cost less combined compared to this one. Prime 1 Studio has always been notoriously overpriced.

Finally Getting Some Good High School DxD Figures

Ever since the animation has degraded for the latter seasons of the anime, all the figures released for High School DxD contained the same shoddy artwork with derpy faces. To top it off, all other good figures of Rias and Akeno have ballooned in the aftermarket. So if you wanted the good figures, you needed to shell out a lot of money. Now, it looks like things will be changing for the better. At least I’m hoping they will. These new Rias and Akeno figures from Kadokawa are looking really good. I can’t wait to see them painted. If everything turns out nicely, this is definitely going to the preorder list.

Are these going to be cast off? They don’t need to be but I hope they are. I don’t plan on displaying them cast-off but it would sure to nice to have that option.

And I do hope Kadokawa makes these figures for all the other characters.

Mushoko Tensei Lewds

I have shied too much from getting a Roxy Migurdia figure because nothing was meeting my expectations. I did bite on the 1/3 scale swimsuit figure because it was very cheap for a 1/3 scale. Maybe I acted on impulse. Do I regret it? Not really. I am however faced with a problem of where to display her when she arrives. Heck, I don’t buy 1/4 scales because they are huge but this one is even bigger at 1/3.

And now, what do I think of this Roxy Migursia figure by Design Coco? It’s still unpainted but I don’t have high expectations of Design Coco.

Is this the best figure of Sylphie? It’s really just a contest between this and Claynel’s Lingerie Version of Sylphie. Claynel’s figure is still unpainted, however. If they go with her white hair version, Claynel wins. If not, Ques Q wins. I’ll have to wait before I decide.

Sexy Shinobi Figures

Senran Kagura is not very popular. They go by mostly unnoticed but all their media, video games, anime, etc., are all quite lewd. Their figures also mostly go unnoticed but their prices rarely go down so I can say that they are still quite popular within their niche. And now, we have new 1/4 scale figures with the sexy nurse theme.

Rent a Girlfriend in a Swimsuit

There are plenty of figures of Mizuhara Chizuru to go around that you can actually get some of her figures at reduced prices on Amazon JP. I think this one is also really good. The details are really spot on. And Amakuni is one of the best figure manufacturers out there.

The Ryza Hype is Still Alive

WonFes will not be complete without a Ryza figure. Almost every big figure manufacturer took a shot at making their own Ryza figure. Frankly, there are a lot of good ones, and choosing the best one is nigh impossible. It will all just boil down to your personal preferences.

Tanuki Hero

The promotional art doesn’t seem very promising so I’m thinking this is just a placeholder image that they are using and that the actual figure will have a more dynamic pose. I am hopeful for this one even if I alreadyhave 2 scale figures of Raphtalia + 1 Nendoroid. At this point, one more Raphtalia figure wouldn’t hurt.

The Uzakis

The Uzaki’s — Hana, Yanagi and Tsuki all have one thing in common. I don’t think I need to point it out.

We’ve already seen Yanagi and Tsuki’s bovine-themed bikinis and now it’s finally Hana’s turn. We only get a silhouette though.

Frieren – The Breakout Anime for 2023

Frieren undoubtedly was one of the most popular anime of 2023. So expect more figures of Frieren to come.

Saberfaces Are Forever

I did see a few FGO figures this WonFes. After so many years and despite the outdated gameplay, FGO is still one of the top-earning gacha games. That goes to show just how much presence the Fate series has in the anime community.

I just chose to feature this particular figure here because it looks really cute.

Lewd Catgirls are After Your Wallet

This might not be cast-off but we all know Nekopara is a hentai VN and they always come in pairs. Their figures are also usually very pricey. So expect to pay top dollar if you want these two.

Are We Finally Getting More Dead or Alive Figures?

I would gladly drop money for good-quality scale figures of the Dead or Alive girls. Is this the first of a series of Dead or Alive figures? No evidence exists to confirm such a thing. However, we do have a new figure revealed for Marie. I don’t know about you but this is going to my preorder list.

There’s a lot of potential here since Dead or Alive Extreme Venus Vacation has no shortage of scantily-clad CG girls.

Notably, another figure for Marie was revealed just a few weeks before WonFes. This, however, is based on her Azur Lane collaboration skin. This appears in Azur Lane and not in any Dead or Alive game.
